Your Seafarers’ Tax Return
The rules around SED (Seafarer’s Earnings Deductions) can be complicated, and you need to calculate them every year according to your work dates.
But it’s worth getting right as you could be entitled to claim your UK tax back. That can save you £thousands!
Binks are specialists in offshore tax. Email us today to find out if you qualify and other way we can help seafarers and offshore workers.
- To qualify for SED you must work on a ship - a ship is not defined in tax law, but ‘offshore installations’ used in the offshore oil and gas industry have been specifically identified and are not regarded as ships for the purposes of seafarers earnings deduction.
- You must have worked outside of the UK long enough (usually a minimum of 365 days) in the eligible period. This is determined by your midnight position.
- A return visit to the UK may count - we can help you assess this.
- There is also the half day rule that we can assess!
- You must have been a resident in the UK/EEA for tax purposes.
